Sword broad leaf aquarium plant? why are the leaves browning?

i bought this plant from aquarium concepts but the tips of leaves dont look so talented i left it in the little black pot it came in and set it on my sand do you actualy have to plant it ? whats the temp? my tanks at 76 or did i just get a crappy plant?

I can consider of several reasons, anything from not enough lighting to the species you have not being a true aquarium plant.

Does the plant you have number a scientific name? Most of the true swords should be Echinodorus. If it's a Spathyphyllum, it's not
