How can i remove gunk off of Aquarium pump?

I bought a protein skimmer for my aquarium that was in use accustomed to. There is a great deal of caked on gunk I'm having annoyance removing. I tried scrubbing, using a razor man about town, soaking in water, still I can't get some of it off. Is there a better way to remove

Inure wool should work. Don't get the soapy kind though. Or a steel wool whisk. They're usually in the varnish/ stain section of Lowe's. You at best can't scrub it too hard or it'll grind up the plastic. You could also try soaking it in vinegar. Since it's acidic, it should eat
